Recruit!

August 21, 2012

This Bible reading challenge is so going so well!  Six days in and we’re really enjoying it!

I’ve been continuing to read in the car. (Before we leave and when we arrive.)
And sometimes I’m not the only literate person in the car!  Recruit!

Mr. HusbandMan read once.
My cousin Allyssa read, too.
And after a visit with Nana and Papa today, my Dad read for us before we pulled out of the driveway.

Establishing our new norm has been much easier than I had anticipated and the kids are starting to take ownership of it.

This weekend I had the opportunity to hit a thrift store on my own and I perused the books section is search of anything educational as I have the crazy goal of homeschooling this brood of mine.  🙂

Fortunately, I came across several children’s Bibles!  I’ve skimmed the children section at a few Bible Bookstores and unfortunately the budget has kept me from filling up the kids’ bookshelf with these sacred toddler friendly books.  So I felt I’d found a little treasure!  (I later spotted one of the $3.99 books at the Church bookstore for $24. I saved $20! I’m sure my husband appreciates it.)  🙂

I got home and made a big deal about my find.  We sat on the porch swing, read a few chapters, looked at pictures, and discussed what we were reading.  And they’ve each picked up the books a few times since then.  Maybe I’ll start integrating these books into our car Bible time.

Sullivan is a super-learner.  He asks a lot of questions and wants to fully comprehend.

StoryJames likes to share in the experience of reading and cuddling together. Then she repeats back what she learns.

Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.  Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.  Deuteronomy 11:18-19
